Amphibian network

monitoring 5.jpgBy annually collecting data about the situation of salamanders, newts, toads and frogs in The Netherlands, we aim to both gain insight into trends in populations and to detect what causes these trends. The amphibian montoring focuses on the breeding waters, counting eggs, larvae, juvenile and adult animals. The waters are surveyed several times a year. All sighted species are registered.

The network follows particularly habitats of one or more Red List-species (considered as near threatened, vulnerable, endangered and critically endangered). A number of these species mainly occur in the south part of The Netherlands. The working method may be summed up as: first listen, next look, then catch. Plots are surveyed at least four times a year.
