We carry out research into:
  • species distribution
  • invasive species
  • diseases
  • environmental DNA

If you would like more information on our projects and our expertise, please do not hesitate in contacting us. Below you find a limited overview of the research projects we're involved in.

    1. Influence of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), the chytrid fungus that causes the amphibian disease chytridiomycosis on amphibian population dynamics. Partner: Ghent University (Belgium). (Conservation Biology paper)
    2. Factsheet on the salamander-eating fungus: Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal). (PNAS paper)
    3. Assessing the impact on amphibians of certain colours of artificial light. Partners: Wageningen University (WUR) and the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). (More information)
    4. Gathering information about the home range and dispersal patterns of the Natterjack Toad (Epidalea calamita) by using radio transmitters.
    5. Telemetric (PIT tag) research on the seasonal migration of several fish species. Partner: VisAdvies BV.
    6. Research into the occurrence of the invasive species Topmouth Gudgeon (Pseudorasbora parva) and Sphaerothecum destruens, the parasite it carries, which is a threat to several native freshwater fish species. Partner:  Department of Microbiology and Dept. of Aquatic Ecology and Environmental Biology of Radboud University Nijmegen.
    7. Detection of secretive and exotic species using environmental DNA (eDNA) and further research on eDNA. Partner: Spygen (Grenoble, France).
