Our native reptiles inhabit huge areas and very different habitats. Their biology is often surprising. Some aspects sound unbelievable and strange. On the other hand, some statements can be read as seeming very reasonable. However, they are not transferable to certain habitats, as observations in the field also show. At least in northwest Germany, herpetological myths make it difficult to protect reptiles and their habitats.
